3 Tips to Maintain Indoor Air Quality During a Remodeling Project
A remodeling project kicks up a lot of dirt and dust and can impact the indoor air quality in your Dunwoody, GA, home. If you have a remodeling project on the horizon, follow these tips to keep the air in your home extra clean.
1. Contain the Debris
Use plastic sheeting to create a physical barrier between your home’s construction and non-construction areas. Although this method isn’t fool-proof, it can reduce airborne debris from entering your living spaces.
2. Avoid Disturbing Harmful Substances
If you suspect the area you’re renovating is contaminated, stop the renovations immediately. Call experts to examine the area and remove any hazardous materials. Keep in mind that remodeling projects in older homes have a greater likelihood of having areas that contain lead-based materials.
3. Use Air Purifiers
No matter how hard you try to avoid it, remodeling projects generate a lot of dust. Sealing off construction areas and using dust-collecting tools do a decent job of removing most grime and filth, but they can’t eliminate it all. That’s why using air purifiers is such a sought-after solution.
When selecting an air scrubber or cleaner, consider the following:
- Coverage area
- Filtration level (3-4)
- Filtration efficiency per hour
You’ll want to purchase a purification system with an auto-mode feature that detects construction dust and cleans the air immediately. Many purifiers with the auto-mode feature also include a real-time LED display to let you know your home’s air quality at any given moment.
Install the purifiers in rooms you use daily that aren’t in the construction area, such as the living room and bedrooms. If installing purifiers in a great room or basement, choose one that offers coverage up to 700 square feet.
Preserving your home’s indoor air quality during a remodeling project will keep everyone healthy and breathing easier. Call Ful-Bro Heating and Air Conditioning Inc. to learn more about air purifiers and many of our other indoor air quality services for your home.
